Predaphilen.1. A person who has an interest (strong or passive) in the alien hunter the Predator, also known as a "Yautja". Predaphiles differ from your average run-of-the-mill Predator fan in that they have the belief that Predators/Yautja have an actual culture, setting them aside as an actual fictional species and society instead of an ugly movie monster, and are willing to discuss this to the fullest capacity with their own theories as well as create fanart and fanfiction to put it to practice and to visualize it. They also believe in the "noble warrior/hunter" aspect and mindset of the Predators, which has been seen and validated in all released movies that feature or star Predators. Most Predaphiles do not believe in the "Hish" concept of Predators, and think of John Shirley's "Forever Midnight" as extreme AU, and not to be considered as any type of fact toward the canon.2. A person who supports or at least recognizes the subtext relationships of Predator and Human seen in the novels and comic books, as well as the Alien vs Predator movie (2004).
3. A portmanteau of the word "Predator" and the Greek word
"Philia" which translates into the word "friendship" and has the meanings of having love, dedication and admiration for a particular subject or thing.
4. Someone who has a sexual attraction to the Yautja species. Not all Predaphiles are sexually attracted to the Yautja. But if picking 5 people out of a group who say they are Predaphiles, about 4 of them will have a sexual attraction to the Yautja.
Origin: The word was first used at
The Hunted, used by Joker to describe a very obsessed Predator fan:
Predator: The Hunted should be of interest to not just 'Predaphiles', but those who know nothing about the alien warrior... and the amount of information around shows that the Predator is far from just a movie character - it could easily be an actual creature!
Predaphiles are a subset of the vast Predator and Alien vs Predator fandom. We come in many different "flavors", but what we all have in common is that we see the Predator as an actual character, species and having society. We could spend hours debating and collaborating on writing and theorizing on different aspects of them, and picking apart the movies and print media to learn more about them and to understand their nature.
Most Predaphiles dabble in fanart and fanfiction either as a reader/viewer or an author/artist. And each author and artist places their own view of the Predators in their work. These works explore the aspects of their species, society and ways of life instead of nitpicking on adding blood, gore and violence. Emphasis is on characterization and plot rather than fight scenes, and keeping in check with the noble and honorable warrior/hunter aspect. These works can range from action and adventure (adhering to the original Predator movie formula) to supernatural and suspense (thrillers)...and of course, to the romantic and erotic, which leads to the other type of Predaphile...
It may not come to a shock, but some Predaphiles do indeed like the Predator in a sexual manner. While the attraction may be sexual, it is not a deviance or illegal. Those who oppose Predaphiles of this type usually try to attack by calling them "sick". However, their flawed logic in their argument is rebutted easily from the basic fact that no one is being harmed or exploited. If they really want to combat "sick fucks", they should put their effort into
supporting the many organizations who strive to find and convict the true "sick fucks", aka sexual (Human) Predators. Not all Predaphiles are sexually attracted to Predators, so check before making that particular assumption of all who self-proclaim themselves as Predaphiles.Predaphiles.net was created for the sole purpose of gathering people who have an interest in Predators that go beyond the "blood and guts" glory and monster image and appreciate this fandom subset in general. Our main concentration is on fan-driven content. While we may discuss the canon, we know that there's plenty of sites out there who have information regarding it, so we aren't going to shape ourselves up to be another "copycat" Predator site. We love fanfiction and fanart, and we love our theories. We see the Predator canon open to interpretation since its information is so scant. We don't consider our theories to be canon, but we'd like to think that they are pretty close to filling the gaps so we may forge on with our fanfiction and fanart. We see the Predator species as something that has a lot of potential. Whether that be through humor, drama, adventure, horror or sex and erotica. We aren't afraid of satire too, and welcome it, along with everything else that turns the Predator into more than what most "average fans" believe in.
Our age group is 18 and up, due largely to the fact that the source movies have been rated R with scenes of violence, body mutilation and even sometimes sex. When speaking of a species with such a track record, it's hard not to get into discussions that may not be suitable for younger people. It also keeps the maturity level a bit higher than other forums.
But beyond that, we have fun and we consider ourselves a lot less threatening than other Predator forums out there. If you have a similar mindset as us and wish to collaborate, debate, share your fanworks and make friends of the same mind, then please feel free to sign up for an account, make an intro post and start lurking to your heart's content.
Happy Hunting!
